The unity of the decalogue makes the abrogation of a single command seem very strange indeed. Some want to mix together the Sabbath command and the ‘judgments,’ commands given by God after the Ten commandments that were based upon the moral commands.

This mixing of categories is unjustified because of the uniqueness of the Decalogue. It stands out starkly when the two versions of the Decalogue (Ex ; Dt ) Sabbath and the decalogue book compared. In the Exodus version, given by God on Mt Sinai, the Fourth Commandment reads, Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Hebrew: זָכוֹר אֶת יוֹם הַשַׁבָּת לְקַדְּשׁוֹ) is one of the Ten Commandments found in the Hebrew Bible. It also covers the Sabbath as taught by Seventh-day Adventists.5/5(2). From inside the book. What people are saying - Write a review. We haven't found any reviews in the usual places. According to John Bright, however, there is an important distinction between the Decalogue and the "book of the covenant" (Exodus and –24). The Decalogue, he argues, was modelled on the suzerainty treaties of the Hittites (and other Mesopotamian Empires), that is, represents the relationship between God and Israel as a relationship.
